Solaris reinvent a modern version of the Pilot Classic. It took two years of study and aesthetic-functional tests to combine the comfort and the performance of a hull designed with the simplicity of the window-coachroofs of the past century. It is definitely the most ambitious project of recent years. Thanks to this 72 Solaris confirm its leadership in the design and construction of custom yachts in the range between 70 and 80 feet offering real bluewater yachts designed by the best designers in the world whose yachts have been sailing the globe for years.
Deck: the saloon windows are unique allowing a true 360° view without sacrificing the interior dimensions typical of a saloon in a 72 ft. The off-center companionway combined with the classic coachroof of the pilot classic allows the creation of three separate living areas on board: cockpit with a wide large table and seats protected by a sprayhood and bimini; central sundeck more than 2 meters in length; separate helmsmans cockpit to control all the running rigging. The 4 winches control all the concealed sheets and halyards. The coamings and the wash-board in polished mahogany are a strong reminder to the tradition. Hull and construction characteristics: the waterlines are the result of different tank tested hulls. From the beginning, the design choice has been the search for performance and balance of the hull at sea. Therefore, in order to optimize the trim and the distribution of weight, the choice of a carbon mast and boom with carbon rigging was the best choice possible. The T-shaped keel is a lifting keel with a maximum draft of 4 m and a minimum draft of 2.6 m. The fin is a foil-shaped structure made in high resistant stainless steel. The chine in the aft area reduces the drag resistance. Hull and deck are built with the infusion system, the bulkheads and the chainplates are made in composite, the structural cage, made up of floors and stringers, and the keel boxes are made in carbon.
Layout: starting from the stern we have a full-beam Owner’s cabin with central bed. A corridor divides the Owner’s bathroom and the starboard guest’s bathroom. The raised saloon boasts a settee with table and a dinette on the opposite side fitted with comfortable and cosy seats. Moving forward we have the galley and the second en-suite guest’s cabin. Along the starboard side the large galley can easily serve the saloon and the cockpit. The crew cabin, fitted with a bathroom and a laundry area, besides a table can boast a slave navigation area. Storage space is provided by a big sail locker in the bow, cockpit lockers and lazarette at the stern. Access to the sea is facilitated by a large opening transom door.
